Director Jon M. Chu has once again worn his 1970s stainless steel perfect replica Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 3579-1 watches — a personal vintage piece that he was also previously spotted in at the 30th Critics’ Choice Awards.

They really don’t make them like this anymore. In fact, even in the ’40s when the high quality replica Patek Philippe ref. 533 watches were made most were outfitted with tachymetre scales. But, as The Keystone detailed in its description of this [now sold] watch, the original owner was a physician who requested a pulsometer scale instead “to assist him in his daily work.” Its 33mm diameter is small by modern standards, but the lugs extend its presence across the wrist and I suspect people who like vintage sizing or have wrist 7 inches or smaller in size would find the fit of this watch to be very classic and elegantly understated. In its day, for its original owner, the cheap super clone watches were functional tool but also a symbol of success and authority within his position. I think I can speak for the team at large that we would all love to see brands bring back smaller chronograph. It does not have to be as dramatic as 33mm, but 34mm to 36mm would be excellent. The Furlan Marri we earlier showcased is quite close, and it is certainly this era of watches the brand is largely inspired by. So, hey there Furlan Marri. We dare you to make your fully mechanical version of a 533 pulsometer.
